Set Up Your Space
Create a Relaxing Environment
Find a space with minimal noise, potential distractions, and where you can move easily in the work space.
IMPORTANT: Avoid using the bedroom, or a bed. Make sure this is a designated space with massage in mind.
Setting Up The Massage Space
Two beach towels and or yoga mat on the floor, this is your "massage table" Obviously, if you have massage table already, use that-
Face cradle is made by rolling a large towel into a horseshoe shape. The idea here is to give them enough space to breathe between towel and mat (floor)
Bolster for under knees (face up) and ankles (face down) use thick rolled towel or bolster if you have one.
Eye Pillow (washcloth works nicely) is a nice prop to encourage deep relaxation
For the giver, make sure you have a thick towel or bolster to support your body while working.
Room temperature should be comfortable with minimal clothing. Have an extra blanket, space heater, fan on hand to regulate. Temps are cooler on the floor, so heat the room accordingly, also watch body language, if they look cold, they probably are, even if they say are not.
Make sure your massage creme or organic oil, is a comfortable temperature before starting, so it feels good on the skin when applied. Practice on yourself first.
To warm up, set in tub of hot water 30 minutes or so, prior to massage time.
Ambiance: Candles and Lighting
The room should be dimly lit to invite relaxation. If you want to use candles, unscented is best in case someone has an aversion to scents. If the room doesn't have dim lighting, consider a lamp.
Incense blows unless you live in an ashram... :)
- Always make sure to blow candles out after session
